LES Pizza Joint Folds, Will Become Italian Tapas SpotLess than a year after opening De Santo, former Happy Valley partners Joe Vicari and Salvatore Imposimato are out of the pizza business. Imposimato is now a broker at Douglas Elliman, and Vicari has bigger sardines to fry if “Page Six” is correct about his opening a place with Todd English at 98 Kenmare. Their slice joint, which closed last Thursday, is now in the hands of Guido Vemitucci and Gino Piscopo, partners in Nero. (Gino is also a partner at Sette and Il Bastardo; Guido is also a partner in Arte Vino.) The duo is planning to open — in late November — an Italian tapas bar named Tre, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrées and small plates to 44 seats (plus eight at the bar). The man in the kitchen: Giuliano Matarese, formerly of Aureole and chef at Nero since January. Vemitucci describes the cuisine as “authentic Italian with a bit of a modern twist.” We’re consulting David Kamp’s dictionary to find out what those twists might be.
