New York has experienced a brisket-y barbecue boom during this decade, increasing both city dwellers’ options for smoked meats and competitions between the pitmasters. One of the precursors of this meaty moment was the Smoke Joint, which has quietly closed after 12 years of business. Under renovations for the last few moments, the space, like brisket over mesquite, has been reborn as another branch of Peaches Hot House. That restaurant is from the same owners, Craig Samuel and Ben Grossman, and instead of barbecue, it’s focused on Nashville-style hot chicken. Brunch will debut on October 27, and Samuel and Grossman say that they will reopen the restaurant in Livingston Manor up in the Catskills.
