One small step for man, one giant leap for people who want to get drunk in space. Today, Mumm Champagne has revealed what is arguably the greatest advancement in space technology in decades: a Champagne bottle you can actually drink from while floating with the stars.
Regular wine bottles don’t cut it in zero gravity, so the bubbly producer worked on a bottle with designer Octave de Gaulle. The Champagne is kept in the bottle’s upper portion, and released by a finger-controlled valve using the wine’s carbonation. As if dining at a molecular-gastronomy restaurant in 2007, the Champagne comes out as foam and can be scooped out of the air using a small glass. It turns back into liquid in your mouth, an experience that astronaut Jean-François Clervoy — who, let’s be honest, would know — tells the AFP is “really magical.” The future is here, and it is fancy drunk.
