After investigating the pork chops and pancakes at almost 75 restaurants in 18 cities, GQ’s Brett Martin can share his 13 (unranked) picks for this year’s Best New Restaurants. This year’s crop includes Majordōmo, David Chang’s well-reviewed Los Angeles debut; Henrietta Red, the Nashville bistro; and two New York spots in Cote, the hit restaurant where Korean barbecue meets the steakhouse, and Chez Ma Tante, the Brooklyn neighborhood spot with pancakes that have stolen cynical New Yorkers hearts. They’re the places, the roving gourmand says amid conversation about the industry’s deeply ingrained problems, that are “the best argument for why restaurant culture is worth fighting to change.” Check out the complete list below, and Martin’s article for the full treatment.
