A New York Bartender Is Killing It on Jeopardy Right Now

Austin Tyler Rogers on Jeopardy.

Austin Tyler Rogers is, at least for a moment, the most famous bartender in New York. He hasn’t invented a cocktail, but has been making a killing on Jeopardy. He’s now won the show seven days in a row, and has been declared the year’s first official streaker, while actually showing personality (unconventional for the staid game show) and taking risks, like betting $15,700 on a Daily Double round. He has the body language of a John C. Reilly character, earned his own Twitter hashtag, and as host Alex Trebek put it, “he’s got hair, he’s got chutzpah, and broad-based knowledge.”

So far, Rogers has won $278,300, and on his fourth day, his $69,000 pot was just $8,000 shy of the show’s single-day record. But the winning is only part of his appeal. He’s been outspoken both about the Eagles (doesn’t like them) and other Jeopardy winners (“They’re nerds usually,” he said on Good Morning America today). During that GMA appearance, he explained his strategy: “I found ways to watch hundreds and hundreds of episodes. I’m not saying there’s a system or a code, but if you watch enough, you’ll start seeing things repeat.” Does anyone know if he’s available to bartend holiday parties this year?
