As mentioned earlier today, Salt & Straw lands in New York this week. The Oregon-based brand has ten shops spread throughout Portland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and is known for offbeat, inventive flavors that change every month. Daily Provisions will offer three: a Salt & Straw classic called Double Fold Vanilla, in addition to two custom collaborations — the textural, earthy, and sweet Salted Caraway Rye with Strawberry Cheesecake, and Joe Coffee and Freckled Chocolate, a rich, creamy mocha chip. To celebrate the launch, founders Kim and Tyler Malek will be serving $1 scoops on Thursday, May 18, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with proceeds benefiting Union Square Partnership.

Why now, and why New York? As it turns out, Salt & Straw and Union Square Hospitality Group aren’t just mutual fans of each others’ products and business practices: Danny Meyer’s restaurant group has invested in the company, fueling future growth like this East Coast expansion. Daily Provisions is only the beginning — plans are underway to introduce single-serve cups at Untitled at the Whitney, ice cream by the scoop at the museum’s Studio Cafe, and prepackaged pints at the Meadow, the salt-and-chocolate shop with branches in the West Village and Portland.
