making america great again

Restaurant Reminds Guests Immigrants Make America Great, Also Definitely Cooked Their Food

Top Chef alum Mark Simmons has tucked a quick #MAGA tip for President Donald Trump onto receipts at Park Slope gastropub Kiwiana, since Trump seems to need a few right now. “Immigrants make America great (they also cooked your food and served you today),” it reads. Simmons himself immigrated from New Zealand, and no doubt, like everyone else in the industry, has a variety of nationalities represented in his kitchen. The line was noticed by the writer Mary Emily O’Hara, who tweeted a pic Sunday afternoon after eating brunch there that, it’s fair to say, is getting a lot of attention:

It’s well past the 100,000-likes mark, and it’s probably important to point out this isn’t just a bunch of liberal coastal elites, as O’Hara discovered when Twitter replies started expressing shock at how steep the $46.54 bill was:

It looks like America is going to make it after all, and here’s even more proof: This insane tip left by three West Texas men who’d traveled to Washington, D.C., to watch Donald Trump assume office. They ate at Busboys and Poets — a well-known, progressive haunt in the capital that held a “Peace Ball: Voices of Hope and Resistance” event during Trump’s inauguration, and hosted Angela Davis the following week — and tipped their server $450 on a $72.60 tab. “We may come from different cultures, and we may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people,” they told her in a long, handwritten note. “Not race, not gender, just American.”
