Peeps Oreos Are Apparently Dyeing People’s Saliva Pink

Hmm, who would have thought? Photo: WalMart

Peeps Oreos have been on the loose just over a week in America’s Walmarts, meaning the freak-out about what damage America’s most polarizing seasonal candy would do as a pure DayGlo icing was perhaps unfair to the cookies, which should stay innocent till proven guilty, even if they do look radioactive. Unfortunately for Nabisco, it looks like the verdict’s back in, and there appears to be at least one side effect from these unholy mash-ups. A dispatch from Junk Food Guy, whose job basically boils down to testing new candy to see if it will in fact kill you, explains the Peeps creme is the same filling used in Marshmallow Crispy Oreos, only dyed suuuper-bright pink.

He says the taste is, as expected, very marshmallowy and even “really really pleasant for a junk foodie like me,” but also leaves would-be buyers this very fair warning:

Dude, the creme turned my saliva bright pink! BRIGHT PINK! This is sort of horrifying – this is the type of food dye where an hour later, when I went to brush my teeth, IT TURNED MY TOOTHBRUSH PINK. What the heck. WHAT THE HECK.

If it was this alarming to a man who’s survived Beer ‘n Brats Lay’s chips and “hot chocolate”–flavored Jelly Belly doughnut mix in the past month, imagine the horror on the faces of these randoms as they stood in front of their bathroom mirrors:

It could still get worse, though. Hopefully that neon dye breaks down fully in your stomach.
