An Alabama woman says her disabled son ran out of their local Wendy’s this week after getting bullied by basically the whole staff. Quenterus Brown told his mom, Teeneshia, that after he placed his order Monday night, he noticed several cashiers and even the manager laughing. He couldn’t figure out what was so funny … until he saw his receipt. The cashier hadn’t asked for his name, but on the bottom of the ticket were the words “Lil Ugly Dude,” which Quenterus tells WKRG didn’t strike him as particularly hilarious, but at least helped clarify the situation. He says it felt like “the whole store was laughing at him,” and that he ran out crying and embarrassed.
Understandably, the receipt didn’t sit too well with Teeneshia, who wrote in a Facebook post, “My ghetto side was telling me to go back up there and let them have it.” She went for the social-media public shaming instead — which by Friday morning was up to almost 1,900 shares.
Wendy’s director of management services Ed Sheffield said in an apologetic statement, “We were certainly disappointed to learn that one of our employees treated a guest in such a rude manner. We take this seriously, and we no longer employ this individual.” Teeneshia says she thinks employee retraining is probably in order, too, and, being a proud mom, has also changed her Facebook cover photo:
