Two Famed Chefs Have Introduced Hot-Dog Ice Cream

To debut Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream’s new “Heavy Hitters” collaboration series, Nicholas Morgenstern has teamed up with legendary chef Daniel Boulud for a few limited-edition flavors, available through the month of July at both Morgenstern’s parlor and DBGB. The menu includes standard offerings such as buttered-rum and praline-infused ice cream, but the most noteworthy dish — and the one that’s destined to take over your Instagram feed — is the “DBGB Cool Dog,” which is, against all odds, exactly what it sounds like.

The idea of hot-dog ice cream sounds, at best, interesting, yet the recipe makes a kind of sweet-and-salty sense in practice: Crème anglaise ice cream is infused with roasted hot dogs from Boulud’s kitchen, then it’s topped with candied green cabbage, spicy honey mustard, and blackberry-raspberry “ketchup,” all piled into a toasted Epicerie Boulud brioche bun. It costs $7.50, but the “likes” you’ll get on your Instagram feed are priceless.

This post has been updated to more accurately reflect the gonzo nature of this ice-cream flavor.
