25-Ton Potato Spill Blocks Off North Carolina Highway for Hours

Annoyed commuters who spent their morning idling on North Carolina's I-77 can blame 50,000 pounds of runaway taters. Emergency cleanup crews in the Charlotte area had to close the roadway for hours after an 18-wheeler collided with the center divider so forcefully that it ripped the trailer apart, launching a literal truckload's worth of edible cargo onto the roadway. Police say the driver accidentally fell asleep at the wheel, and that he’s recovering just fine in the hospital. Photos suggest, however, that he was probably driving way over the spud limit:
