James Beard Award–winning journalist and GQ restaurant man Brett Martin filed his “12 Best Restaurants of 2016” list today. The lineup is ordered alphabetically, and Martin doesn’t declare a winner, but it’s a mix of heavy hitters with a couple of surprises. New York is represented by a trio of distinct spots: Danny Meyer’s museum spot Untitled, critical-darling wine bar Wildair, and, in a very deserving stealth pick, French bistro Mimi. The Sullivan Street restaurant is, officially, very much no longer under the radar following this mention and Adam Platt’s three-star review in New York. Other restaurants that passed Martin’s test include James Beard Award winner Shaya in New Orleans and the widely acclaimed Baroo out of Los Angeles. Check out the rest of the winners below:

Baroo (Los Angeles, C.A.)
Cassia (Santa Monica, C.A.)
Mimi (New York, N.Y.)
Monteverde (Chicago, I.L.)
Moruno (Los Angeles, C.A.)
Mud Hen Water (Honolulu, H.I.)
Petit Crenn (San Francisco, C.A.)
Shaya (New Orleans, L.A.)
Staplehouse (Atlanta, G.A.)
The Perennial (San Francisco, C.A.)
Untitled (New York, N.Y.)
Wildair (New York, N.Y.)
