Ten months after Con Edison discovered an illegal gas connection and shut down 79-year-old Carnegie Deli, the restaurant finally reopened at 8 a.m. today. For a while, the future of Carnegie seemed bleak: Beyond the major gas issue, the owner, Marian Harper Levine, divorced her husband, Sandy, who manages the deli, because he cheated on her with a waitress. Now the beloved pastrami sandwiches and cheesecakes are once again available to the public, drama-free.
