Skippy Has Recalled 1,871 Pounds of Reduced-Fat Peanut Butter

On Thursday, Hormel Foods issued a voluntarily recall for 153 cases — or 1,871 pounds — of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread over concerns that some jars might contain small metal shards. The peanut butter in question (16.3-ounce jars with a “best if used by date” of DEC1416LR1 and a package UPC code of 37600-10500) was sent to the distribution centers of Publix, Target, and Walmart in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. According to Hormel’s press release, the problem was discovered during routine cleaning, and, as a spokesperson tells The Christian Science Monitor, it was the result of a malfunction that has since been fixed. But for your next PB&J;, maybe go for the full-fat, crunchy stuff.
