OpenTable Tries Charging for ‘Premium’ Reservations

Following the lead of services like Resy, OpenTable has announced that it’s going to test the idea of charging diners for last-minute, prime-time reservations. The company is framing this shift as one that will help restaurants “face challenges” by increasing revenue, while also hoping to “delight valuable guests.” For now OpenTable’s Premium Reservations program will run through its iPhone app, with Cosme being the first last-minute restaurant on offer. This kind of app enters an already incredibly crowded field, but what’s nice, at least, is that 100 percent of the proceeds goes to the participating restaurant.
