The Chain Gang

7-Eleven Is Releasing a Coffee Just for New Yorkers

Bold move, 7-Eleven.
Bold move, 7-Eleven.

It seems 7-Eleven is hurt that New Yorkers, a discriminating bunch, aren’t pleased with its coffee. To show it’s gotten serious about java, the chain is set to unveil a new blend — the press release doesn’t call it a “flavor,” so already there are signs of progress — called “New York Bold.” It’ll only be available in stores in New York (and for some reason, northern Jersey), and the brew of Central American, Colombian, and Brazilian beans “caters specifically to the bold, rich desires of New Yorkers.” For better or worse, 7-Eleven brags that New York City franchisees actually created the new blend themselves, apparently basing bean selection on customer feedback.

Per the press release, there’s a new “Stay Hot Cup,” too. Unlike the convenience store’s past to-go vessels, this one needs no sleeve, has the skyline printed on it, and of course is 100 percent recyclable.
