A customer at a Lambert’s Café, a Missouri-based chainlet whose claim to fame, for better or worse, is being the “Home of Throwed Rolls,” is claiming that she got hit by an errant piece of freshly baked bread and suffered a $10,000 eye injury as a result. Famously, Lambert’s employees wheel bread carts around the dining room and lob rolls to guests whose most imminent danger, generally speaking, is of their roll getting sneezed on as it goes by a stuffy diner.
Troy Tucker, however, claims she “sustained a lacerated cornea with a vitreous detachment and all head, neck, eyes and vision were severely damaged” after a roll collided with her face during a September 2014 visit. Tucker wants at least $25,000 to pay for legal fees and her current and future medical bills. Frivolous? Who knows — there’s no footage of Tucker’s bread assault, but clearly, her bread-thrower had the arm of Nolan Ryan if this video is indicative of typical roll-delivery speeds:
“Employees never meant to hurt someone when they ‘throwed’ those rolls,” Lambert’s general manager tells a reporter at KFVS, in case there was still lingering confusion about this. Defenders of Lambert’s say that when you go to the restaurant, “you expect to have rolls lobbed at you.”
