Great, Now We Can’t Even Count on Bread to Be Safe

Bimbo Bakeries, part of megabaker Grupo Bimbo (the world’s largest baking company), is recalling about 48,000 packages of bread in 11 states because — you won’t see this one coming — the AP reports they “may contain fragments of glass.” The company explains that a lightbulb broke at one of its processing plants, and a customer has found “small pieces” of a sharp substance on the top of a store-bought loaf.

No injuries have been reported so far, but the company says that customers who’ve purchased any of seven different Sara Lee breads, two Nature’s Harvest breads, two Great Value breads, and one type of bread each from Kroger, L’Oven Fresh, and Bimbo should probably bring those back in for a full refund. Packages have best-by dates that range from August 29 to September 1, and a bakery code that reads “1658.”
