A Bar Kicked Out a Transgender Woman Because Staff Assumed She Was a Male Prostitute

A bar in Tempe, Arizona, is scrambling to make peace with a transgender woman who got kicked out because a bartender assumed she was a male prostitute. Not good. Briana Sandy was at Tempe Tavern simply to watch the Belmont Stakes, and when she tried to order a drink, she says the bartender told her, “We don’t serve your kind here.” (The bar admits it kicked her out, but disputes anyone ever said that exact line.)

Sandy then posted about the incident on Facebook, where it caused an uproar. Tempe Tavern’s manager Rob Tasso offered a public apology, and he wrote in a lengthy Facebook post that he’s “not proud of how this situation was handled.” Sandy, meanwhile, has hired an attorney, who tells the local news, “This could be over. This might not be over. We’re going to look at all options possible.”
