Taco Bell’s New Fritos Tacos Just Look Like Regular Tacos

We can do better.
We can do better.

The day forewarned several months ago has come: At least one Taco Bell (in the Memphis area) is officially offering Fritos Tacos for public consumption. For the time being, the filling is beef, and the shell — basically just a really massive chip — can be either plain flavor or Chili Cheese.

No doubt the Chili Cheese flavor has its loyal following among the Fritos faithful, but really, aren’t plain Fritos just saltier, thicker strips of corn tortillas anyway? Say what you will about the Doritos Locos tacos, but at least those felt like progress. If anything, Fritos chips feel like a step backwards in terms of innovation. Redditors in the r/TacoBell subforum, where the Fritos tests surfaced, seem to have their doubts as well. “That taco will be impossible to eat without a beverage,” swears one user. Of course, we’re pretty sure Taco Bell would respond, Exactly.
