The Birth of Saké, which will premiere this week at the Tribeca Film Festival, offers an intimate look at a small group of artisans who have dedicated their lives to the craft. The film focuses on Yoshida Brewery — a family-owned brewery in northern Japan, where workers spend six months working around the clock, making serious personal sacrifices.

Director Erik Shirai (a No Reservations cinematographer) specifically focuses on brewmaster Yamamota Toji and his sixth-generation heir, 27-year-old Yasuyuki Yoshida, while capturing the intricacies and beauty of the 2000-year-old tradition. Here’s a clip:
