Building a brand-new kitchen won’t slow Thomas Keller’s roll: While he renovates the French Laundry kitchen — a process that will take eight or so months — he and his team will operate out of four metal shipping containers. It’s quite an impressive technical achievement, as the temporary kitchen is almost an exact replica of the original — even the pans are hanging in the same position. Keller explained to the Times that the containers, right on the Yountville grounds of the restaurant, “are the same width as the French Laundry kitchen.” The new, permanent French Laundry kitchen, meanwhile, is expected to make its debut in the late fall or early winter.
