David Tanis and El Rey’s Gerardo Gonzalez Are Hosting a ‘Jungle Dinner Party’

It'll look like
It’ll look like “a rich and moody rainforest.”

Here’s an exciting follow-up to El Rey’s collaboration with Sqirl: On March 18 and 19, Gerardo Gonzalez will prepare a dinner with David Tanis, the New York Times City Kitchen columnist and cookbook author. Instead of hosting the meals at teeny-tiny El Rey, owner Nicholas Morgenstern has rented out a raw space in Soho, which he says will be transformed into a “rich and moody rainforest” with the help of Brutal magazine.

Tanis and Gonzalez will cook Mexican-inspired dishes, all served with wine pairings, and Cosme’s Yana Volfson will oversee cocktails. Tickets cost $135, which is steep, but it’s an all-inclusive deal: cocktails, snacks, wine, coffee, dessert (provided by Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream), and service are all covered.

The dinners will be held at 42 Howard Street (at Mercer) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., and you can purchase tickets right here.
