Los Angeles police say that preliminary lab tests reveal that a local bakery’s Rosca de Reyes, a kind of king cake, was “tainted with drugs” when sold to customers, which is probably why at least 40 people who ate it had hallucinations and had to seek medical attention. “The only common denominator with all these patients is they ate this Three Kings bread in celebration of the holiday,” authorities said, noting that health-department officials also found some cockroaches at Cholula’s Bakery when they paid a visit. The drug itself hasn’t been confirmed, but some customers reported “out-of-body experiences” that had nothing to do with finding baby Jesus in their slice. The bakery’s owners face potential criminal charges.
