Cheery, know-it-all comedian Adam “Ruins Everything” Conover puts his Alton Brown-ish looks and mannerisms to good use here to explain the history and thorny, complicated issue of restaurant gratuities. It’s part logical appeal and part history lesson — tips were once a bribe, to begin with — and even broaches the realm of academic studies that suggest better service does not equal better tips. Get past Conover’s blatant use of a bullhorn and frenetic delivery, and you’ll definitely have something to discuss over dinner tonight.
