Earlier this fall, Danny Meyer’s food operation at the Whitney Museum of American Art closed in advance of the institution’s move to the Meatpacking District, and it’s now been announced that Michael Anthony, Gramercy Tavern’s esteemed chef, will serve as executive chef and managing director upon its reopening. Howard Kalachnikoff, who is currently an executive sous chef, will be promoted to chef de cuisine at Gramercy Tavern by the time Anthony starts working the pass at Untitled in May. In other Danny Meyer news, 2015 is expected to be a big year for the restaurateur: Porchlight in Chelsea will open, Union Square Cafe will close, and the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Garden is expected to reopen after renovations and a modest upgrade.
