After 90 days of not-so-secret testing at four California locations, McDonald’s says it will roll out sleek “Create Your Taste” kiosks at around 2,000 stores by 2015. These machines do exactly what the name suggests, which is offer burgers or chicken sandwiches in an array of bun choices and toppings like barbecue sauce or chili-lime tortilla strips.

Here’s a look from the test-market front, which includes those decorative metal-fryer baskets you normally only see at fancy places like Red Robin.

McDonald’s says it takes about seven minutes to receive a sandwich, an eternity it thinks the millennial generation is cool with as long they get to “deal with a computer” instead of having an “interaction with another human being.” Of course, the advent of highly customizable burgers seems to be a counterintuitive move for the chain where time-consuming McWraps are slowing business way down, until you realize the potential for the bottom line: McDonald’s says these kinds of burgers can go for around $8.29 each.
