Hotel lobby bars are particularly delightful in December, when you can cozy up next to a fireplace with a boozy hot chocolate. (And hey, if it snows, you have an excuse to stay the night.) If you love the bars at the Ludlow, the Marlton, and the Bowery Hotel, you’ll likely feel the same way about John McDonald, Jason Pomeranc, and Steven Eckler’s brand-new Gordon Bar. They collaborated with designer Tara Bernerd to bring the feel of classic uptown bar, like Bemelmans or King Cole, to downtown New York.

The cocktail menu looks stellar — and the space’s lush living wall is the perfect backdrop for drinking a Jerk Drum Toddy, with aged Jamaican rum, all-spice agave, amontillado, pechuga, jerk bitters, cloved orange peel, and cinnamon. The food menu is still in development, but McDonald (Bowery Meat Company, Lure Fishbar …) has developed hearty bar snacks like prosciutto-filled arancini, semolina gnocchi, chickpea fritters, and angus-beef sliders. Take a look around:
