Nathan Shields, the “illustrator, math teacher and professional dad” behind Saipancakes, uses a mundane frying pan and a humble IKEA spatula to cook pancakes that start off as random batter squiggles but somehow end up as really detailed portraits, and then some — his oeuvre also includes Sendak-esque crites and the Hobbit cast. Here, he renders some soy-milk batter into the spitting image of Ol’ Blue Eyes in just a few seconds.
