The chef and restaurateur Peter Hoffman writes to say that his casual, Greenmarket-forward restaurant Back Forty has closed on Avenue B after seven years. The restaurant debuted in the fall of 2007 as a more casual offshoot of Savoy, Hoffman’s Soho bastion of Slow Food principles and grass-fed meats. Savoy itself closed and became an outpost of Back Forty in 2012.

Hoffman says a “difficult landscape and lease uncertainty led to the decision” to shutter in Alphabet City, and the restaurant’s final night of service was Sunday. “We appreciate the support and loyalty of many of our customers and look forward to continuing to serve them at our Prince Street location,” he writes.
