McDonald’s Invented Bubblegum-Flavored Broccoli

As if to prove the official McDonald’s agenda isn’t all about distracting kids in poor neighborhoods with giant ads for cheapo kids’ meal toys, chief executive Don Thompson told a bunch of finance types at Andreessen Horowitz that the fast-food chain in fact tried to do some good by inventing a kind of broccoli with a distinct bubblegum flavor. Children, however, “were confused by the taste” — “It wasn’t all that,” Thompson says — so the plan was nixed, so now out-of-luck kids are stuck with yogurt that tastes like sugar and chicken with distinct notes of modified food starch.
