Sure, some may blame the unusually mild summer weather, but it’s more likely that aforementioned bubble burst is contributing to the continued closure of the city’s surfeit of fro-yo places. Frozen Peaks, which opened at 154 Bleecker Street last December in the shadow of NYU, has shuttered despite attempts to diversify its portfolio with gelato and popsicles. In Brooklyn, the hyped-up Barclays Center outpost of New Jersey chain Let’s Yo! has also thrown in the towel after trying to entice customers with breakfast-y offerings and cappuccinos. Its soft-serve machines and Vitamix blenders go up for auction tomorrow afternoon. Finally, even Yohielo’s adorable bear mascot couldn’t get enough people through the door at 687 Broadway; the shop shut down in June. [Amodeo, Related]
