Alex Raij and Eder Montero Plan to Open a Lower East Side Restaurant

The chef-owners of La Vara, Txikito, and El Quinto Pino are in the early stages of planning a Spanish restaurant for the former Shalom Chai space on Grand Street. Alex Raij and Eder Montero, who are also writing a cookbook to be called Welcome Basque, will pitch formal plans at tonight’s CB3 liquor licensing subcommittee meeting, and say they have not yet signed a lease with the Seward Park Co-op Board, which manages the LES property.
