The curtain and American-flag-draped barroom at Cody’s Bar & Grill has gone dark on the far western reaches of Soho. Though the place was primarily known as a low-key sports bar that also served things like beef-turkey burgers and black bean ravioli, the establishment, at the corner of Dominick and Hudson streets, was once home to an unlicensed bar helmed by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd for wild Saturday Night Live after-parties, and is even reportedly the inspiration for Aykroyd’s House of Blues chain. The space was also home to a moderately upscale but short-lived seafood restaurant in the 1980s called Sailing. [Tribeca Citizen]
