Police announced that enterprising thieves made off with 300,000 liters of beer, or some 141,000 six-packs, after meticulously breaking through several layers of security at a Berlin warehouse, just as an estimated one million people took to the streets to toast Germany’s World Cup triumph on Tuesday. The beer had been stolen over the weekend, and authorities declined to speculate whether the crime had anything to do with the massive public celebration, but because the German Brewers’ Federation estimates it would take less than 18 minutes for revelers to consume that amount of lager on a regular day, it’s a good bet the evidence has completely vanished.
