Whole Foods Columbus Circle Got a Liquor License, Plans Cocktails for Shoppers

The Time Warner Center spot has gotten the thumbs-up from CB4 and says it will soon start to sell “unique cocktails and fun drinks” as a shopper’s perk. Its “On Tap” beer bar was somewhat avant-garde in 2011 when it opened, and, because it already has the wine store, it’ll be NYC’s only location boasting the beer-wine-liquor triple threat. But not because the others aren’t trying: Just this week, the edgier, Brooklyn-to-the-infinity-power Gowanus Whole Foods’ application to serve hard liquor in its 200-seat rooftop café was rebuffed by CB6, whose members fear a “really, really unnecessary” clublike atmosphere atop the grocery store.
