San Francisco Chronicle Kills Stand-alone Food Section

Well, at least they didn’t go and name its replacement “Artisan,” as rumored: Confirming earlier reports, the venerable newspaper has announced that this Sunday it roll out a “robust 16-plus page lifestyle section” called Food+Home, which replaces its Food & Wine and Home & Garden sections. Food critic Michael Bauer will continue on in his evaluations of the city’s restaurants, a “new generation” of writers such as Jonathan Kauffman and John Birdsall will contribute pieces and guest edit, and the Chron says it will bring more chefs, winemakers, and “community leaders” into the fold for features and trend pieces. A greater emphasis, a release indicates, will be given to entertaining and “cutting-edge ideas for the home cook” going forward. [Related]
