It’s been in the works for a while, and now it looks like Michael White’s Altamarea Group is making a renewed push to expand into 216 Lafayette Street, next door to his four-year-old Osteria Morini. The restaurateur’s previous plans were repeatedly shot down by CB2, with its most vocal critics arguing that 10 of 15 buildings on Morini’s stretch of the Soho block already had liquor licenses. Regardless, the incoming restaurant will be called Caffe Morini & Enoteca, and is being described as a “unique, high quality, affordable, warm and friendly meeting place for people to gather and enjoy small plates of delicious food.” Altamarea Group has cleared several legal hurdles this time around and will present detailed plans for the space next week at a CB2 meeting.
