Front Street bar, restaurant, cultural hub, and onetime DOH target reBar shuttered without any warning or advance notice today. Managers tell Gothamist that owner Jason Stevens sent them a terse email message that simply read, “Rebar is bankrupt and closed. Please dispose of your keys and do not enter the premises. Please forward to any staff not included.” The site reports that at least 35 staff members are now without a job, and meanwhile, a worker says “hundreds of couples who have paid in full or partially” for reBar’s event space are now left hanging.
