Though it makes use of the maligned word foodie in its title, the upcoming film America’s First Foodie chronicles the life of celebrated chef, farm-to-table pioneer, and illustrious author James Beard, and it looks fascinating. It’s still in production, but on its official website, director Beth Federici says the film will explore Beard’s life through “menu-like chapters,” using archival footage and rare photos of Beard along with interviews of many heavyweights of the contemporary culinary world. “He championed American cooking, the things that were really our heritage,” says Alice Waters.
