Northern Spy Loses Both Its Executive Chef and Pastry Chef

Grub hears that Hadley Schmitt, who has spent the last two and a half years making countless pork sticky rolls and kale salads, is leaving the East Village restaurant to move “to new horizons elsewhere in these Unites States.” Northern Spy Food Co. also recently lost its pastry chef: Amy Poweski, who conceived excellent doughnuts, buttery biscuits, and plated desserts like maple pot de crème, has taken over the pastry department at the Breslin. Look out for an announcement in the coming weeks about Northern Spy’s new executive and pastry chefs — and if you want to say good-bye to Schmitt, this is his last week on the job.
