The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service says some 96,000 one-pound packages of Oscar Mayer’s Classic Wieners may in fact contain its Classic Cheese Dogs. The mixup doesn’t seem like the biggest deal, but because milk, an allergen, is involved, the recall qualifies as Class I, meaning the potential of someone having a serious adverse reaction to the pasteurized cheese presents a significant-enough consumer risk. But also, no one really wants to bite into a hot dog and get a mouthful of oozing cheese, because hot dogs are scary enough as it is. [New York Times]
