Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group announced today that Floyd Cardoz, the chef at North End Grill who first made his name at Tabla, will be leaving the company. In an official statement, the company says Cardoz, who also won the third season of Top Chef Masters, “is transitioning away from North End Grill to pursue personal culinary projects that focus back to his roots of cooking with Indian flavors, explore projects in India, and work on his forthcoming cookbook.” According to a rep for USHG, Cardoz will be leaving at the end of April.

Here’s the full statement:

After 16 years of outstanding work at Union Square Hospitality Group, Chef Floyd Cardoz is transitioning away from North End Grill to pursue personal culinary projects that focus back to his roots of cooking with Indian flavors, explore projects in India, and work on his forthcoming cookbook (Artisan, 2015). Floyd has been an integral member of the USHG community, first as Executive Chef of Tabla, a groundbreaking and seminal New Indian restaurant located in the Flatiron district between 1998 and 2010, and most recently at North End Grill, a critically acclaimed American bar and grill located in Battery Park City. Floyd has mentored myriad cooks over the years, many of whom have gone on to enjoy their own culinary success. Over his tenure at North End Grill, Floyd has built a tremendously talented team who will ensure that the restaurant maintains an outstanding level of excellence and hospitality as USHG begins the search for a new Executive Chef.
