Five-year-old San Marzano, on the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, has closed for good. Last month, a message went up on the restaurant’s website indicating that a burst pipe and subsequent flood had damaged the restaurant; at the time, Bowery Boogie learned from a worker at San Marzano’s sister location in Merrick, Long Island, that there was “no timetable for a return.” The restaurant was one of several visited and reviewed by Mario Batali and Jimmy Fallon back in its early days in 2009. San Marzano’s contents, including its deluxe wood-burning Valoriani Verace oven, will be auctioned today. [Related]
