An Irish man named Kieran Hughes is on trial with seven drivers for allegedly trying to illegally bring some $3.3 million worth of vodka into the U.K. disguised as Evian water bottles in 2011 and 2012. Customs officials caught the drivers in the act every time they tried to enter the country because of their shoddy, “cut and pasted” manifests claiming the trucks were actually carrying water or vinegar. The paperwork was faked so badly, apparently, that prosecutors are expected to ask Hughes if he knew that Evian is “naive” spelled backwards. [Belfast Telegraph]
