Chef and partner Sue Torres sent out a brief note today announcing the closure of her 11-year-old Sueños, Eater reports. The Chelsea restaurant has had its share of loyal admirers, April Bloomfield and Frank Bruni among them, during the last decade. In his 2003 review, New York critic Adam Platt praised Torres’s pork tamales and “superior” chorizo quesadillas; not much, down to the excellent margarita list, has changed since. “We could go on for hours about the plight of small businesses in these economic times,” Torres writes in her statement announcing the closing, the blog reports, “but we are sure you have heard enough of that in the news. This is a decision that we, ultimately, had to make for ourselves.” The restaurant will close on March 23. [Eater NY]
