Michael Winterbottom’s The Trip was less about the modernist, Michelin-starred restaurants visited by Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, and more about letting the two comedic actors expound on celebrities and life while playing somewhat exaggerated versions of themselves. The pair are now back in The Trip to Italy, which just played Sundance, and here, the inevitable volley of impressions of Michael Caine as Alfred from The Dark Knight Rises gives way to riffs on Christian Bale’s Batman and Tom Hardy’s Bane, all while they’re seated at a white-tablecloth restaurant.
