Here’s a somewhat unexpected one: Taavo Somer and William Tigertt’s busy Bowery diner Peels, which opened in the late summer of 2010, is closed as of 11 a.m. this morning. Representatives tell Grub Street that the proprietors have been in discussions with the real-estate-investment group that purchased the building last summer, and have agreed to “turn the restaurant over.” The agenda for January’s CB3 SLA & DCA Licensing Committee meeting included an as-yet-unnamed applicant for 325 Bowery, presumably the new operator who will reopen the restaurant shortly with a new concept. “We’ve had a great run and thank all of our staff, the neighborhood and customers for the years of support and memories,” say Somer and Tigertt. “We’ll miss everyone, but we have to say goodbye.”
