Before the advent of big-box restaurants and chains, no-nonsense seafood and chop houses once lined Seventh and Eighth Avenues. Famous Oyster Bar, one of the last of that old guard, closed last night after 55 years in business. The restaurant’s furnishings and interior decor, which have a strong nautical theme (including hand-carved model of the Titanic), will be auctioned off today starting at noon, reports Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York.
