Eater reports that Donatella Arpaia’s three-year-old Neapolitan pizzeria on Eighth Avenue appears to be closed permanently: Clues include unanswered phone calls, a flat-lined OpenTable page, and signs hung in its darkened windows indicating a new tenant’s application for a liquor license. The restaurateur opened in September of 2010 after several months of preparations and a build-out undertaken by some of the pizza world’s heaviest hitters, who built what representatives called “New York’s most serious pizza oven” at the time.
